There is something special about creating art outdoors.
On Saturday, August 29, Plum Lake Event & Equestrian Center will welcome a small private group of plein air painters who will spend the day capturing the beauty of the property, the Northwoods landscape and, very likely, a few of our horses.
Plein air painting is simply the practice of painting outdoors, with the artist working directly from the landscape in front of them. Instead of painting from a photograph or inside a studio, the artist experiences the light, weather, colors and movement of the setting as part of the creative process.
For this group, Plum Lake offers exactly what they were looking for: open views, natural beauty and horses.
A Property That Inspires Creativity
We often talk about Plum Lake Event & Equestrian Center as a place for riding lessons, horse activities and community events, but the property can be so much more.
The same open spaces that make it a wonderful equestrian facility also create a beautiful setting for artists, photographers, writers, instructors and small groups looking for a peaceful and memorable place to gather.
A plein air painting day is a perfect example.
Artists can spread out across the property, choose the view that speaks to them and spend time creating in a quiet Northwoods setting. One artist may be drawn to the horses. Another may focus on the barn, fields, trees or changing light across the landscape.
Everyone can experience the same property in a completely different way.
More Than an Event Venue
Not every event needs a stage, banquet tables or a large crowd.
Sometimes the best gatherings are small, creative and personal.
Plum Lake Event & Equestrian Center can provide a unique setting for:
- Art and photography groups
- Creative workshops
- Educational classes
- Club gatherings
- Small retreats
- Wellness programs
- Training sessions
- Community organizations
- Other small-group experiences
With indoor and outdoor spaces available, groups have the flexibility to create an event that fits their needs while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the property.
Welcoming Northwoods Outdoor Artists
The artists visiting Plum Lake are connected with Northwoods Outdoor Artists, a group that gathers throughout the summer to paint outdoors at locations around the Northwoods.
Their regular painting outings welcome artists of different experience levels and give painters an opportunity to create together while exploring beautiful local settings.
While the August 29 gathering at Plum Lake is a private event, anyone interested in learning more about Northwoods Outdoor Artists and their regular summer painting schedule can visit:

Could Your Group Gather Here?
One of the things we enjoy most about Plum Lake Event & Equestrian Center is seeing people use the property in ways we may never have imagined.
A horse arena can become a classroom.
A quiet corner of the grounds can become an artist’s studio.
A barn can become a gathering place.
And a beautiful Northwoods property can become the backdrop for an experience people remember.
If your organization, club, instructor or small group is looking for a unique place to gather in the Northwoods, we would be happy to talk with you about the possibilities.
