Important Youth Summer Horse Camp Update:
To create the best possible experience for our campers, we have consolidated our 2026 Youth Summer Horse Camp sessions into one exciting week of camps this July.
The updated camp schedule is:
• Camp Class 1 – Basics & Beyond: July 6-9
• Camp Class 2 – Beyond Basics & More: July 6-9
• Camp Class 3.0 – Let’s Get In-Depth: July 10-12
If your child is currently registered for a camp session, Penny will be contacting you personally to discuss the schedule change and confirm your camper’s placement.
If you have a camper who wants to attend Summer Horse Camp, please register as soon as possible. A registration form can be found on this page: https://plumlakeequestriancenter.com/summer-horse-camp/
We’re looking forward to bringing all of our campers together for a fun-filled week of horses, learning, confidence building, and new friendships. The horses are ready, the arena is waiting, and we can’t wait to share another wonderful summer at Plum Lake Event & Equestrian Center.

There is something very special that happens when children spend time around horses.
Confidence grows quietly.
Responsibility begins to take root.
And children who may start out shy often begin to stand a little taller.
As we prepare for another summer of Youth Summer Horse Camp at Plum Lake Event & Equestrian Center, I recently had the opportunity to speak with Kristina K., whose daughters Brooke (9) and Grace (11) attended all three camp sessions last summer.
What she shared perfectly captures what we hope families experience here at the farm.
“The camp was a great primer and I learned that we didn’t need to go out and buy a horse for our girls to experience horses,” Kristina shared. “I have no background in horses!”
That is something we hear often.
Many families are curious about horses but have no prior experience. Our camp was designed to provide a welcoming and educational introduction for both children and parents. Campers learn far more than simply riding. They begin with the foundations of horsemanship and horse care, learning how to safely interact with horses while building confidence and understanding.
“Camp was an introduction to horse care – more than just getting on a horse,” Kristina explained. “Penny starts from the ground up and includes anatomy of the horse.”
Instructor Penny Wahlgren has a special gift for connecting with children at every comfort level.
“Penny has a great way of drawing out my shy daughter,” Kristina added.
That kind of growth is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do here.
Our indoor arena also allows camp activities and riding sessions to continue comfortably regardless of summer weather conditions.
“The indoor arena option is wonderful because no matter what the weather is, we can still have our time in the arena,” Kristina said.
Today, Brooke and Grace continue their journey with private riding lessons here at Plum Lake Event & Equestrian Center, and we are so grateful to be part of their story.
Our 2026 Youth Summer Horse Camp sessions are filling steadily, and we would love to welcome new campers to the farm this summer.
Youth Summer Horse Camp is open to ages 7–17 and focuses on:
